The Study of Leaders has become a global need for Women

Leadership Definitions And More

I don't hesitate to think it's official that every woman should be aware of this: "Becoming a Leader has come to be a global matter".

Not only women, but men too, in almost every corner of the northern and southern hemispheres  are able to find students talking about Leadership.

Becoming a Leader is as global as going to school. It's definetly like any other human activity.

Are you prepared to work on this matter?

Check this out:

To Lead is about making things happen, To Lead is about achieving many sorts of targets, Leadership is about motivating people. Do You have any idea how to do that? Are you able to make people do things? Do You know when to lead? How to transform yourself in a leader? Can You achieve goals? Do You know how to inspire a group of people and have them support you to reach your objectives?.

Certainly this kind of thinking was the main engine that moved Ken Valenzuela, an Engineer from Latin America to set up BeALeader.Net to investigate about leading. According to Ken Valenzuela the website is intended to become the "starting point" for millions whose only access to "reading material" is the Web.

While looking this latino's site something grabbed my total attention. I'm referring to the belief that Constant Learning is the key ingredient on the recipe to become a leader. The Blog is a sample that engineers in latin america are becoming aware of the big challenges of the next hundred years.

You probably think you know a lot about the subject please check out these definitions that I've picked up from BeALeader.Net. By the way, I've counted a dozen definitions in the website. You can read them all in Leadership Definitions if you want.

My favourite definitions are:

  • “Leadership is the influencing process of leaders and followers to achieve organizational objectives through changes”. (Lussier & Achua, 2004)
  • “Leadership is the behavior of an individual… directing the activities of a group toward a shared goal”. (Hemphill & Coons, 1957)
  • “Leadership is a process of giving purpose (meaningful direction) to collective effort, and causing willing effort to be expended to achieve purpose” (Jacobs & Jacques, 1990)
  • “Leadership is about articulating visions, embodying values, and creating the environment within which things can be accomplished” (Richards & Engle, 1986)
